In my short experience in playing instruments I found that Teacher Zhengyong is one of the most patient teachers you'll ever be able to find. He takes time to go through all the chords on the guitar to refine and hone your skills, making sure that even the most minor of mistakes are abolished. He teaches that music isn't just about playing an instrument but also about passion and to enliven our daily lives through playing guitar. He is an incredibly inspirational figure and teaches music through daily life experiences as well so that students can relate well. I would like to highly recommend Zhengyong as a music teacher. I have taken lessons with him for the past 3 months already and have had a great time. He has been great at getting me started with guitar both making it enjoyable and structured. He is super flexible and guides me when I want to play a specific piece of music even if it is not fully aligned with the “curriculum”. I am planning to continue the lessons and hope to soon be able to play a complete song. I have also asked him to teach my daughter from next month onwards as I am convinced he would be as good with kids as with “seniors”.

My experience with Teacher Zhengyong is great. I feel out of all the guitar teachers I have had, he is the best teacher. He shares with me other things besides just learning guitar grades. He tells me other things like the different types of guitar, recommends nice guitar songs. He motivates me when I am not sure how to do a certain chord or bar and he will try ways to make me become better. He makes guitar lessons fun and interesting. I think I have learnt a lot of interesting things about guitar from him.

Zhengyong is my first ever guitar instructor and I have been taking classes from him for 6 months now and I am so glad that I didn't go with the infamous online / self-paced approach like most newbies do. In the first 6 months, where most beginners usually give up, you ideally need a true coach right beside you like Zhengyong that understands your unique learning style, fine tunes the course structure accordingly, motivates and pushes you wherever needed. Always positive, encouraging and patient, Zhengyong is great at both theory and practice. Highly recommended!

Having known Zhengyong since school days, I was not hesitant to reach out to him to be my guitar teacher. As I’ve always known him to be, Zhengyong has continued to be a patient friend and teacher now. Zhengyong has been a great guitar teacher. I’ve taken group classes in the past and they haven’t really worked for me because a lot of foundational mistakes tend to slip by in larger settings. In my classes with Zhengyong, we’ve been able to take the time to build a strong foundation that then makes it easier to move to more advanced skills. I would highly recommend him if you are looking for more individualized attention on the guitar.

Zhengyong is a great instructor to have. Firstly he listens to what your goals are and where you think you need help. Then he structures the lessons so there is a good balance of him teaching you what he thinks you need to know/practise and then also, what you want to learn. This keeps it engaging and fun. He is also a genuinely nice guy which makes the lessons enjoyable and never a chore.

Zhengyong is a patient and caring teacher who has been teaching my son, Breydon, for the past year. He is never late for lessons and an effective teacher who is able to pace his teaching to my son’s guitar standard so that he understands the lessons. His teaching strategies are varied so that my son is engaged. Zhengyong is also organised - he asks students to keep a notebook for recording of homework. I will not hesitate to recommend him to parents who are looking for such qualities in a guitar teacher.

I think that listening and singing along with music is (and has always been) a very big part of my life. Hence, I had multiple guitar lessons at guitar centres and in school but I always seem to lose interest in guitar after a few sessions despite my interest in music. However, Zhengyong’s approach with music helped me keep a sustained passion in guitar. I have stayed with Zhengyong longer than I have ever stayed with any other music teacher. His approach to teaching is less traditional than the regular grade by grade style. He teaches me interesting theory in relation to what I am learning at that point in time and also shows me fun concepts of guitar throughout the process. Undoubtedly, he is skilled at guitar playing, but he also is able to relate to you and what you enjoy, making you enjoy his lessons. I definitely encourage others to engage with Zhengyong as a teacher if they want to learn guitar (although i see him more as a mentor). Zhengyong is passionate not only in playing guitar, but also teaching. Even outside our lesson timings, he would answer my questions and help me with troubles i am facing during practice. I will always remember him saying “text me any questions” after each and every of our lessons.

Zhengyong has been teaching my eight year old son and his friend for a few months now. I find him to be a thoughtful, skillful, patient and organized teacher. Most importantly, he makes all the classes a ton of fun for the boys which ensured they sustained their interest in guitar. When I have class with Zhengyong, I get to play the songs I like. I mainly get to choose what songs I learn from Rockschool books and Zhengyong's arrangements. I learn different techniques for both fingerstyle and strumming. I get to play songs that are a bit challenging for me and not too easy.
